My Project

My readers daydream about relay races at Camp Half-Blood, stand with Katniss Everdeen, and cheer on the Boy Who Lived. They are smart, energetic, thoughtful students who eagerly devour new books.

March Book Madness has consistently helped my students in our daily endeavor to build our reading community.

Our reading curriculum allows students to read mostly books of their choosing so for the last eight years March Book Madness has been a huge success in my classroom. Using the brackets created by Tony Keefer and Scott Jones, I introduced the 16 books to my students and invited them to read as many as they could. Students added titles to their To Be Read Lists and discovered new authors and genres. Then as voting happened each week, it gave students an opportunity to share with their classmates their opinions on the books they had read. Students advocated for their favorite books and encouraged their peers to vote for them, which all helped to strengthen our reading community.

The books on the 2025 March Book Madness list include stories about friendship, courage, and acceptance. By adding these books to my classroom library, students will read stories that reflect their own lives and give them the opportunity to learn about the lives of others.
