This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am requesting map skills workbooks that will support my students' learning about maps and help develop their spatial reasoning skills. In the world of GPS, it might seem strange the need to teach map skills. Especially when the GPS shows you how to get from point A to point B. However, learning to read maps is important in developing a student's spatial reasoning skills.
Spatial reasoning skills are important for everyday life and an important STEM skill that engineers use to plan and create.
Learning to read maps will help my students make mental images of where and how far places are located. They can see the relationships between places and help them make sense of their world. Knowing and understanding our neighborhoods, cities, and countries around the world is an important part of being a global citizen.
The workbooks will be a great way of teaching these important skills, that I know will last a lifetime. I also want to provide them with a workbook that they will be able to use in school and at home.
