My students need erasable, colored pens and bright card stock paper for creating engaging and exciting interactive science notebook pages.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a fourth-grade teacher in a Title I school. That means my students come from low socioeconomic households, and for most of them, English is not their first language. 65% of my students are English Language Learners.
Despite challenges, my students come to school each day eager to learn and take charge of their education.
I believe in empowering my students and giving them thrilling and motivating educational experiences that simultaneously improve their math, writing, reading, science and social studies skills.
My Project
I've been fortunate to stumble upon multiple education texts and educational articles about the research and power of taking visual notes in the form of a mind map.
Mind maps and visual notes are individualized representations of a student's learning through the use of drawings, labels, and written descriptions.
Visual notes and mind maps are much more memorable when drawn in color! The brain remembers color better than black and white. Erasable, colored pens will make notes and diagrams more accurate and more exciting to look at and create.
Along with mind maps and visual notes, our science and math notebooks are loaded with student-created mini-books and foldable graphic organizers. Not only is it fun to create a variety of books with basic school supplies, but the books help us organize certain types of notes. Having another Dinah Zike book, specifically about science foldables, will expand our thinking about how paper foldables can be used to learn science!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
