it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In a Math class, the hands on and real life world connections are very limited. Students sometimes lose interest in the class because they do not see how this relates to their everyday life. In my engineering class, I teach students surveying and topographic mapping using instruments such as the engineer's transit and level. Currently, I do not have these instruments to help me explain and apply the concept of surveying and mapping. We only have compass to measure bearings and tape to measure distances. Thus, limiting our capability to measure differences in elevation
The engineer's optical transit would make it possible for us to complete a topographic survey and mapping of the area around our school.
This instrument will help students learn about a very important and practical application of mathematics which is surveying and mapping. These skills are important in engineering which is one of the most popular and financially attractive professions even to this day.
Through the use of this equipment, my students experience will definitely change and widen their choice of profession and competence in the future. I hope that this hands on application of what they learn from the classroom will inspire them to develop a love for engineering
