Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title I school, with 90% of our students on free or reduced-price meal plans. We have many English Language Learner (ELL) students at our school. Over half of my students are ELL students. Our students come from working families and families who speak other languages at home. Some parents are not able to communicate in English with us, but we do have Spanish-speaking translators on site.

Our staff is very caring and committed to providing a nurturing, fun, and engaging classroom for all our students.

We want students to know that we will be there for them and give them as much as we possibly can. One great thing about our school is that we have one-to-one devices, using iPads or Chromebook computers. For many students, this is the first time they have been able to use and engage with today's technology.

My Project

My project is for Ozobots so my students can learn about coding through play. Ozobots are small robots that students can program and learn about coding as they offer many lessons through their site. Using them, we will study our hometown and create a map for them to travel through. Learning about our community is one of our units of study.

Students will create maps of their neighborhoods using the Ozobot's language; once done, they will have an Ozobot traverse their maps!

My students will get to design and plan out a map about their neighborhood. Ozobots are designed with color coding and this will work perfectly for our layout and design for our maps. Students will also get the chance to do some STEAM all within this lesson. This will be a great opportunity to study our town and collaborate as a team.
