My Students

Our school district has a low socioeconomic base, and about half of the students have access to free or reduced-price lunches. Our students come from a rural area. Some have families that offer their children many special resources such as family vacations and name brand clothes. Others come from situations that are much less financially stable.

As a talented and gifted teacher, I am trying to incorporate science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) materials to help our students be prepared for life outside of school.

Most of our buildings are one-to-one with computers for children. However, the students do not always have the hands-on resources or opportunity to explore applications and resources outside of the core classroom subjects.

My Project

The Map Skills books will be used in the upper elementary Talented and Gifted (TAG) classrooms to help students better understand their place in the world. The classroom sets of plays will allow students to use their reading skills to entertain others.

Learning about maps and acting will help students be ready for life in the real world.

They will be better able to communicate, and they will be able to find their way in the world. Both of these skills are necessary in the world outside of school.

Some students who are talented may lack other skills necessary for daily life, or lack training in ways to express themselves. These items will help prepare students in those areas.
