I am a teacher to 25 intelligent, resourceful and energetic students in a 5th grade monolingual classroom in Waukegan, IL. Over 90% of my students come from a hardworking minority family. At the same time, most of my students live in a low income, high needs community. I want my classroom to be an environment where they come in excited and eager to learn. To achieve this, I want to give them as many updated and modern tools as I can to create independent and lifelong learners.
My Project
My students will have to keep up with the latest advancements in education to spark an interest in geography. My school has a limited social studies curriculum. A majority of most students cannot find their home town or state on a map. They cannot name states, continents or other geographical concepts and terms. I want to utilize these journals to extend the given curriculum and help my students advance their geographical knowledge.
These journals will fill gaps in my students geographical knowledge.
These journals include much needed updated information as well as engaging pictures and formats to catch the attention of all learners in my room.
