I teach Kindergarten in North Carolina. I teach at a Magnet School in Raleigh. For those of you who do not know, a magnet school has a mix of children from all over the county. I have 20 students in my class who are really eager to learn. There are many skills that I have to teach that deal with classification: seasons, shapes, and social studies. Some children are getting it and others are having trouble. I found an activity center that will allow the children who are having difficulty a different way to practice during our center time. It can also be used during group time for a class lesson. The center uses magnetic items that the children place under each heading to sort objects by season, classify animals, shapes, group everyday items like food and clothes and more. It helps them to work on their skills while they are having fun. This center allows the children to work on word association, as well because the headings are written out with a picture to help.
