Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project will help students, most of which are immigrants who are first time English language learners from a variety of Latin American countries, who migrate to the US seeking freedom, opportunity and pursuing the American Dream to cultivate empathy and a spirit of giving among one another by providing them with the materials they need to support their peers. Our goal is to help students see the world through the eyes of another person and foster a community grounded in compassion, understanding and kindness. The requested snacks will not only nourish students' bodies but also nourish their understanding of empathy and compassion. Many students come to school without adequate nutrition affecting their ability to concentrate and learn effectively.

By providing snacks, we can alleviate this barrier to learning and show students the importance of caring for others.

Students will take an active role in this project by participating in snack drives and distribution. They will learn about the impact of food insecurity and work collaboratively to address this issue. Through discussions and activities centered around compassion, students will explore different perspectives and the importance of supporting one another. Success in this project will be measured through journal entries, surveys and reflections before and after the project to gauge the changes in students' attitudes towards empathy and compassion.
