I want my students to have more opportunities for hands on experiences with materials that will stretch their creativity. The children I teach come to me with very little academic experience. Many are low-income with very little exposure to educational \"toys\" such as magma tiles, bristle blocks and other manipulative materials that they can explore and create as they see fit. As a first grade teacher and with much pressure to teach children to read, my children have very little time to choose activities freely and socialize/negotiate this time with their peers. Many of the manipulative\'s I want my children to have access to gives them prior knowledge and experiences in areas such as math and science which they may not have had before coming to my classroom. This experience will help them become more successful learners.
