My students need fraction tiles and Cuisenaire rods to better understand fractions. In 5th grade we work with adding and subtracting fractions. By having these tiles, students will be better able to understand why certain fractions are equal. I am also requesting dry erase markers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from a high poverty area. Every day I see that these are very determined and intelligent students.
As a new teacher, I am still adding to my classroom.
My students are better able to learn when they have visuals, especially in math. I have attended a math training that taught me how to better teach fractions but I am in need of some math manipulatives to accomplish this. I think this would help my students understand the concepts such as fractions.
My Project
The fraction tiles will allow students to visually see the way fractions can be added or subtracted. The fraction rods are also used in this manner. These can be used in word problems and other activities to represent fractions. The dry erase markers are important because we often work on our whiteboards and on the classroom board when collaborating with others.
Students love to do math when it is fun!
Math manipulatives make math more interesting and allow students to be more engaged. Many students are visual learners and they need these manipulatives to comprehend fractions.
There is a lot of room for collaboration with these math manipulatives. This will be very beneficial for students!
