My Students

" All students can be successful", this is my belief and passion that all students can be a success. Success can be measured as a little task getting mastered to a big objective that has been conquered. I know that If students are given the right tools these tasks and objectives can happen for all.

This year I'm partner teaching 50 students who are very energetic but perform at the basic and below basic level.

They love to move and communicate. They are part of a urban school district where funds have been stripped. Although it is November, I still have students who do not have school supplies. Despite all of this my attendance is 98 percent everyday. My students love coming to school and learning everyday. They love to express themselves through writing, drawing and conversation. This has allowed me to have an enjoyable school year thus far. I want to continue to make their learning experience a positive and meaningful one, and this is why I am submitting this project. Our school consist of hard working educators who are committed to teaching urban children yet, we lack up to date resources that help to continue to engage and motivate students for the 21st century. We have out dated textbooks, and supplies that are missing pieces which makes it difficult to teach.

My Project

Telling time is crucial for everyone to know. As part of the third grade curriculum, students are expected to enter the third grade proficient in telling time to the nearest minute. Unfortunately, this is not the case for most of the students in the area that I teach. Having the materials( Judy Clocks) will allow the students to physically see how time works on an analog clock. This skill is hard for many students today because most homes, cars, and places have digital time. Students rarely see an analog clock and are able to read and understand how time truly works. Along with telling time, students must calculate the time that passes in between an activity (elapsed time). I teach how this is important for bakers, chefs and also, for everyday activities like knowing how much time is needed to catch a bus or train when leaving your house in the morning for work. Students will use the Judy clocks to solve real world problems and gain knowledge in telling time.

Donations to this project will greatly improve my classroom learning environment.

Students will be engaged and have a hands on activity to help motivate them to continue learning. The Judy Clocks will allow them to gain the knowledge of telling time that is a life0lo
