Manipulatives Make Math Meaningful!

Help me give my students a variety of hands-on math learning tools such as geometric shapes, counting manipulatives, and clocks.

My Students

My first-grade students are full of energy and enthusiasm for learning! They are inquisitive and start each day eager to know what the day holds. They thrive on the day to day routines but love unique and hands-on learning experiences.

As a teacher, I love being able to provide learning opportunities that stretch and develop my students' curiosity in the world around them.

Even though their emotional and academic needs may vary greatly, providing them with high-interest materials and lessons helps each child progress. They are a wonderful group of children, and their positive attitude towards learning is contagious!

My Project

For young children, learning important math concepts starts with concrete objects. My classroom is in need of a variety of manipulatives to build a strong mathematical foundation.

What better way is there to learn about the shapes that make up a pyramid or a cube than to build it yourself?

Magna-tiles will provide my students with that experience and knowledge. A variety of linking cubes will also help my students develop a strong number sense and basic algebraic concepts as they use the objects to represent numerals and parts of a whole. A set of clocks that can be held and manipulated will help my students learn the basic structure of a clock and telling time.

Having these math manipulatives will create more meaningful learning experiences and increase student engagement. Students will gain a better understanding of basic math concepts as they explore and come to new understandings using these tools.
