We opened two years ago as a new 3 - 5 elementary only and although we had a great new facility, we needed many classroom supplies to help the students learn and grow. We have been able to provide our students with the things they need but with over 800 students we need more help.
The students in my class are your average third grade students.
They come from middle class homes and are hardworking, motivated, and eager to learn.
Math is one of our favorite topics and it is a subject where students can do a lot of active learning and hands on work. With active learning, students retain so much more information which is what we want them to do in order to be successful in school and life.
My Project
As a new school, we have many programs and basic materials available to us--but it is a proven fact that students can learn better when they are able to use hands-on materials to help learn a concept. We are a large school and many things we simply do not have enough of for all classes.
When we introduced fractions, I had to go to several teachers to just get enough kits for my class to share in groups of 6, I would love to have enough items that they do not need to share with more than 1 or 2 other students.
The double dice would be a great way for students to practice basic operations, such as addition, subtraction and multiplication. The Discovery Cans will help me have base materials for all of our units in 3rd grade.
