This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Within my math computer lab class, I aim to supplement and remediate the skills my students learn in their math classes. Although online tools and technology improve daily, hands-on math manipulatives stay in style.
Manipulatives can help lift math instruction off a computer screen or worksheet into a physical space that will allow my students to work through and better understand the math concepts they learn.
When students can explore and express abstract mathematical concepts in a visual and hands-on way, it deepens their understanding. The Write & Wipe Boards will help teach many learning standards in my multigrade classroom, such as place value, number sense, and fact fluency. For example, Lakeshore Building Math Skills Write & Wipe Boards for K-Gr. 2 will help my 3rd graders better prepare for multi-digit addition and subtraction and can help remediate place value for 4th and 5th grade students. The Giant Magnetic Graph & Array Chart will help guide my 5th graders to understand coordinate planes, 4th graders' area models, and 3rd graders' multiplication fact fluency. These are just a few examples of the possibilities these manipulatives will create.
Please help me bring these tools to my classroom and help foster math mastery among all my students.
