This year I moved up a grade level to teach second grade. I have an amazing group of second grade students in my class who have already proven themselves to be a super group of children.
Since I am new to the grade level I am lacking many of the teaching supplies that would help me give my students the most effective instruction they deserve.
A priority on my supplies list is math manipulatives.
The materials I am requesting will be instrumental in teaching and practicing the 2nd grade standards in math. The fractions kit will give students a way to break up an object into equal parts of varying quantities before being asked to do so pictorially. The area/perimeter kit will be used as students learn to identify square units within a shape (area), and around the shape (perimeter). The base 10 blocks, place value coins/boards, and the regrouping chart will support students in adding and subtraction numbers up to 1000 with regrouping.
