My Students
I teach in a high poverty portion of Southern Illinois. My students are special needs kiddos requiring some additional resources to aid them in being successful. These students are learning to cope with disabilities such as autism, emotional concerns, physical differences and many other ailments that make it imperative that I teach them self help skills at this young age. The students in my class require a great deal of assistance such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, adaptive equipment and numerous accommodations throughout each day.
My Project
This project brings many new and exciting manipulatives into our classroom to make learning to count and pattern new and exciting! We will use these manipulatives to count, pattern, identify and sort. Our special needs students require multiple reteaches to fully comprehend some concepts.
These manipulatives will provide our students new and exciting approaches to multiply taught concepts.
We will uses these manipulatives every day as we teach concepts that will create the frameowrk for all future lessons in math.
The counters will add variety to our patterning and counting lessons and the peg boards and ice cream scooper game will add the fine motor aspect that these students so desperatly need while also giving them work in counting and patterning!
New and exciting manipulatives help to keep each of the students excited and engaged in learning math skills and concepts!
