Manipulating Math

My project needs three sets of math manipulatives: CUISENAIRE RODS, Plastic Geoboards, and Tangrams.

Mathematics is compiled of many different concepts. Some of these concepts are patterns, measurement, geometry, statistics, and probability. These concepts are often unfamiliar, abstract, and confusing to students. Children can easily understand some of these concepts and others take time and practice until they are understood. We need to help children develop the ability and confidence to find their way around in each of these areas. They need to be able to see how they connect, and know what to do should they forget a fact or procedure. One way to achieve this is to use Math Manipulatives in the classroom. Manipulatives are defined as materials that are physically handled by students in order to help them see actual examples of mathematical principles at work. I want to bring manipulatives into my fourth grade classroom. Due to the high cost of the manipulatives and the large number of students in my classroom I am unable to purchase class sets of these manipulatives for my students. With your help each one of my students will have manipulatives that will help them better understand the more difficult mathematical concepts and will allow them to enjoy learning at the same time.
