My Project
My middle school students are bright, funny, and engaging, and they love their library! Despite the fact that they come from a Los Angeles neighborhood where many struggle with poverty, language barriers, and the realities of modern urban life, they are eager and avid readers. They are especially wild about reading manga.
Please help us refresh and fill in the manga section of our library so that my students can partake in the benefits of reading manga, including increased multimodal thinking, a bump in visual literacy, and a boost in creativity.
My students intensely enjoy reading manga from a physical book. They are keen on reading vintage titles as well as new manga series that have been featured on tv and in videos. In our neighborhood, it's challenging for the students to get to the public library because it's not safely walkable and public transportation is limited. They rely on our school library for their manga fix. With your help, my students will soon be reading new stories that I hope will encourage them to be life-long readers as well as better thinkers!
