My Project

As an educator in a juvenile detention facility, I teach boys and girls who range in age from 12 to 17. Their interests and reading levels vary greatly as well. I have some high school students who admittedly haven't read an entire book in their lives. But I also have middle school kids with a post-high school level reading level.

Manga books interest kids across ALL reading levels.

We have a generous selection of graphic novels but some students pointed out my lack of manga books. I'm not too familiar with that genre so they educated me on the basics. I found a few at a local used book store and they have flown off the shelves. Some of my lower-level readers are familiar with many of the characters from videos but didn't realize the book series came first. I'm eager to add these student recommended titles to our collection. My students will be SO excited!
