Maneuvering Toward Mastery With Mice

Help me give my students 20 laptop computer mice so that each child will have one to use with our school Chromebook cart laptops.

My Students

This project is for students I will have in the coming school year. I have already had interaction with these children during our RBI leveled half hour morning program.

As usual, there is a wide range of personalities and abilities.

I see an excitement in them as they anticipate coming to our 2nd grade classrooms upstairs. I want to give equal opportunity for special needs, struggling and above average students. Our projected 2nd grade enrollment for the coming year is up considerably from this year.

My Project

Each year I have a class full of high energy 2nd graders that are ready to tackle deeper learning using the Internet. Our school has purchased a Chromebook cart for the school to share. This is a wonderful tool, but if the students are not able to manipulate them, they are of little use. When we use the cart, each child needs a mouse.

The problem we face is their inability to maneuver learning activities and projects we attempt to do.

This is especially true when attempting to make our classroom more inclusive for our special needs students. There have been times our children have been taken to unwanted sites due to their inability to select the correct area. Second graders’ motor skills are not refined enough to use the laptop pad effectively and they become very frustrated. Please help our little fingers maneuver toward mastery with mice.
