Help me give my students a writing tablet to connect to their Chromebooks.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Hale's classroom raised $914

My Students
My students are a wonderful group of 7th graders. Many of them were born and raised in the inner city. They have a lot of energy and are willing to learn if they are challenged. In order to fully engage them, they need to have a variety of learning experiences. Over the past three years, the students have had an inconsistent math instructional program. As a result of this, they lack confidence in their reasoning abilities and comprehension skills.
The students are not quick to accept just what adults tell them but to question the rationale and reasons behind the tasks.
I love this inquisitive nature. We channel this with positive questioning techniques, so it isn't seen as defiance or disrespect. Their eagerness to learn is what keeps me and my colleagues going (>90% staff attendance). It is because of them, that we all come to work every day and do what we do with a smile on our faces.
My Project
As a result, COVID-19 forces our students to work from home. The change in learning environments has taken a toll on the students, families, and teachers as we try to navigate the virtual learning environment. To access the students' ability to understand and grapple with the mathematical concept's learning, students need to have opportunities to model and show their work. Digital learning has been difficult as the students try to adapt to a digital environment using a Chromebook and a trackpad to complete math assignments. Using a drawing tablet allows the students to write their problems in a digital workspace and upload their assignments for the teacher to review.
Our school is trying to increase student engagement in mathematics.
It is an area that our students struggle with daily. Our test scores are low, and six months of online schooling widens the achievement gap for students of color in urban school settings. This initiative will help us increase engagement by making it easier for students to work from home as they navigate this digital learning environment.
