Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My first grade students are eager to come to school and learn. In our classroom we have a calm corner that helps them to manage their feelings. When students need a break they go to the calm corner and take time to themselves. Students can choose a fidget toy to use while at the calm corner.
It is important for each student to realize that all feelings are valid.
They will be able to regulate their feelings while seeing the picture cards from the social emotional library of different feelings at the calm corner. They will use the mini push pop keychains while at the calm corner that they will store in their tables.
While in the classroom, my first graders will develop structures and routines that will help them feel safe and cared for during our school day. Having folders that allow students to organize their materials will help them develop responsibility. I am also asking for masks for myself so that we all stay safe during this pandemic. I also requested name tags, so that they we can all learn each others name.
