My Students
My classroom is a loud and active classroom, seeing over 100 students in a day. The students are always dancing and playing instruments.
I teach PER-K-4 in Lowell, MA.
These inner city kids are fun-loving and active. They enjoy singing, performing, and playing instruments. Students have been learning to read music, use the language and talk about the way the music effects themselves and those around them. They are working toward a being the best musicians they can be and loving every minute of it.
My Project
Recently through Donors Choose, the classroom received many Orff instruments --all xylophones. With these 30 mallets, the students will be able to play more complex songs on their instruments. They will also be able to accompany their own singing making for a more gratifying experience in music class.
With the students learning to utilize their note reading, they have been playing them with mismatch, broken, and inappropriate (the wrong type) mallets.
With the proper mallets for their instruments, they will have an easier time playing them. The head of the mallet will be the right size for the bars and they won't miss the bars as often, finding faster and more rewarding success.
