My students love exploring musical concepts with instruments. They are becoming fans of the Music K-8 magazine series. They are also becoming skilled writers. Lately students have been writing their own short compositions and exploring the use of different instrumentation.
It is exciting to watch their compositions get more interesting and become more skillfully written.
Because students have been understanding more in depth concepts and topics in music; lately they have been asking questions that have surprised me with the degree of thought that has been put into them.
My Project
Having xylophone mallets will allow students to be able to work in pairs on xylophones to create simple borduns or melodies. Students will each work on one section of the xylophone at a time in various lesson settings.
Having extra xylophone mallets will allow more students to participate in a variety of ways.
Sometimes I may project literature in our classroom so that students may compose music to a story; or students may create borduns to a piece of music they have already learned how to sing. Students may also create their own compositions of varying lengths and styles by themselves.
