This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are the most caring children you will meet. They are sweet and kind and try their best in school. My school is a title 1 school, with over half the schools population receiving free or reduced lunch. Many of my students receive blessings in a backpack which is where they receive donated food to bring home on the weekend. Despite their hardships, my students are excited to learn and truly love coming to school. I believe that they can achieve anything that they set their mind to and I will always have their back to do so.
My Project
My students need Kinetic Sand, View-Thru Geometric Solids, CVC Word Builders Activity Cards, DK Games: Silly Sentences Magnetic Play Tiles to engage in hands on learning. In our classroom we have many worksheets to help us learn. This is provided by the county and the children do enjoy working on them, but they seem to only care about completing them and not learning from them. My philosophy of teaching is through a hands on engaging approach. This allows to students to really understand, manipulate, and enjoy what they are learning about. Using see through geometric shapes allows them to fully understand what 3D means and they can understand that 3D shapes have volume and 2D shapes do not. Using kinetic sand to write their sight words allows them to have fun while remembering how to spell their sight words. Using silly sentence builders lets them see how sentence structure works, without the stress of coming up with the ideas, and spelling and writing the words themselves. CVC word builders will be used during word work in order for them to understand how the words are structured. The geometric solid shapes will help the students identify and understand 3D geometric shapes. These materials will allow me to finally have the hands on classroom that I have wanted and is better for my students learning.
