My students are special because they like to work with their hands. They like to create their own path toward learning. These materials will provide my students with the opportunity to talk about what they want and need in their educational setting while they use their hands and creativity to make one-of-a-kind objects that they can keep as a reminder of the peace they feel while working on a project or they can share with peers and others in their lives when they want to promote peace.
With these materials we will create a safe space where we can talk, share and gather new information and we will have peace while we create because while students are working on the projects, they will be less aware of the distractions that may prevent them from wanting to verbally share.
Instead, they will be so busy working on their projects that they may not realize they can present about problems they have in their lives and others can offer solutions or lend a non-judgmental ear so that students will feel safe enough to share.
