My students need Carolina Perfect Solution Frogs and other materials for scientific explorations and investigations that will inspire the next generation of researchers, doctors, and engineers.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year will be my 4th year at the same Title I middle school and I can't see myself anywhere else, because of the students. Our school's population is highly diverse, and many face the obstacles of poverty - roughly 90% are minority students and 90% receive free/reduced-price lunch. Our school is big part of the community, where families take great pride in the successes of their children, our students.

They are students who deserve the chance to explore and engage in authentic learning experiences.

These kids show up at school, despite whatever struggles they may be facing, and take on the academic world. They are full of energy and enthusiasm waiting to be channeled, and I am lucky to work with them.

My Project

So many concepts of science are on such a macro or micro scale, or are so abstract, that they are difficult to understand. To give students the lasting learning experiences they deserve, they need access to real materials. For example, the Double Injection Frogs will be dissected to provide an unforgettable experience in understanding the body systems that allow organisms to think, breathe, and get energy. They will master density through States of Matter Kit by constructing molecular models.

The Wisconsin Fast Plants will enable my students to study the incredibly microscopic world of genetics in a visible way.

The Rust Race kit will facilitate a chemistry investigation on how atmospheric oxygen affects our daily lives. Finally, the grow light, seedling heating pad, and mushroom kit will all help to ground ideas about where our food comes from by growing food and to perform experiments to see which conditions are optimal for seed germination.

Students from my neighborhood don't have many role models in these fields, so it is often left up to school experiences to give them the exposure. A generous donation for these supplies enables those experiences.
