My Students
My students come from all different backgrounds. We have families who value education above all else all the way to families in so much crisis that education takes a back-burner position in their priority list. Our students have a huge amount of potential and often don't realize this potential due to lack of opportunity from financial circumstances.
Soccer is in poor standing compared to the traditional power-houses of football and baseball in our community, where we struggle to get kids interested and involved in the sport.
We have some community initiative at the youth level, but it is struggling to capture the kids in the area and keep them playing into their teens.
Of the kids that do play soccer, they are some of the hardest working and enthusiastic kids you will meet. They may be coming from years of recreational playing experience, or high school may be their first time playing organized soccer/sport. One thing they all have in common is they are eager to learn and improve!
My Project
Our players work really hard all year, finding time and money, that is a very precious commodity, to play soccer for their high school. As the coach, it falls on me to measure, mark and paint the lines on the field for practices and games.
A field marking kit would save us hours and money, from not having to remeasure (often more than once) the field every year and then paint it.
We could be using that time to practice and the money used for new equipment.
Giving our players the right environment to learn and grow, will hopefully help me reach the long term goal of growing the sport in our community.
