My students need an easel and supplies like markers and magnetic clips for whole group instruction.

My Students
I work in an inner city school that is home to our district's SAIL program for children diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our school is a Pre K-Grade 6 school where 48% of our students do not have English as a first language. 34% are students with disabilities and 84% are high needs. I teach in a sub-separate classroom. The degree of my students' disorders makes it impossible for them to be included in a general classroom setting.
My students require a highly modified curriculum, smaller class size, help with sensory regulation and a lower student/teacher ratio in order to be successful learners.
Special education teachers are expected to deliver excellent instruction in science, math, English and history without many of the requisite tools to teach our students.
My students are 11 of the most creative , adventurous and funniest children I have had the pleasure of teaching. They all learn and grow in different ways through highly individualized instruction.
My Project
Most of my students have received little whole group instruction in an educational setting. Typically they are divided into small groups by level and are doing individual activities to increase their learning. This way of learning is extremely helpful in targeting individual goals but we want to achieve MORE in our classroom!
It is clear to me that these students can learn in a whole group model with the right instruction.
They love when we come together and they can share their knowledge about a particular area with the rest of the class.
These materials would allow me to have a more engaging and colorful lesson with my entire class and get them involved socially and academically with their peers!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
