Have you ever created a great product but were unable to share it? Our students would like an AirPrint compatible laser printer so that they can print directly from their iPads. This will help with peer editing and with publishing.
Our students like to "Think Win-Win", practicing the 7 Habits as a leader in my school.
We are already "winning" with technology as students use laptops, iPads, and personally owned devices daily in the classroom. This really leverages our technology for the benefit of all learners. Students are creating great written projects with illustrations using our new iPads. Although we're making significant efforts to be a green school, there are times when projects are worthy of publishing and sharing.
Our school is a walk-in neighborhood school in a district that is proud to offer choices to stakeholders. We offer three pre-school programs, an all-day kindergarten, and regular curriculum through 6th grade. Next year we plan to offer a Discovery Program for gifted and talented learners.
My Project
The AirPrint laser printer is designed to work wirelessly with our hand-held devices like the iPad. This will be a real time saver as students currently have to email finished work to themselves or transfer it manually by connecting the device to a computer. This negates one of the big advantages of a hand held device. Students are able to produce original work using the device, but then they have to wait to connect to a desktop or laptop to transfer the file. With the wireless printer, all students will be able to have print capabilities, wired or wireless. As we move closer to a 1:1 technology initiative in which all students will have access to, this is a necessary move to support our existing infrastructure.
iPads, iPods, and other personally owned devices are making huge inroads in our classrooms.
As teachers and students become more comfortable with using these new technology tools, we want to encourage them to use these devices efficiently and productively. The wireless printer will help students to become better writers, as they print documents for peer editing or publish them for an authentic audience.
