Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class is a very active environment. Students are busy working on projects and there are many different stations or areas in the classroom.
I teach beginning and advanced students in an urban, lower income area in California.
My students are very intelligent and they tend to excel in classes like mine where they have a chance to express themselves creatively. Our school is 60 years old and our students often do not have access to materials that other schools might have in more affluent areas. Our minority and English learner population is higher than most schools in the same county.
My Project
My students make fabulous projects in wood, plastic, and other materials. A scroll saw would give them a professional tool to use in their work. This tool allows the user to easily cut curves and tight details that they can incorporate into their designs.
One of the projects that my students will create using the scroll saw are handmade birdhouses.
We have been making birdhouses for the past 4 years and students often want to add intricate details in their work. They have not had the capability to do this level of detail in their work in the past because we do not have a tool that makes the intricate cuts. For this reason, we are requesting funding of a scroll saw.
