Making Test Prep Engaging

My Students

"Today a READER, tomorrow a LEADER" -Margaret Fuller

So many students hate reading because they've never been taught how to love and enjoy reading.

I want to instill that love of reading into my students so that they have every opportunity to have a successful future!

I teach 5th grade Reading at a Title I school. Many of my students don't like to read because they struggle with reading and are reading below grade level. They feel like reading is a form of punishment. My goal as their teacher is to make them successful readers and show them reading can be fun and enjoyable. I want them to love coming to my class and want their love of reading to make them successful citizens.

My Project

We will be preparing to take our state reading test soon. These resources will allow us to create games to review skills we have been learning all year in a fun and engaging way. We would use these materials in stations. Once we create these games they will be laminated and used over and over again with all my students for years to come.

I know they will enjoy, learn and retain so much more by reviewing creating and using these fun, interactive games with their classmates rather than a teacher led lecture format or worksheets.

These resources will not only help improve my students state test scores, but they will also help strengthen their reading comprehension skills.
