Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are all females who are aspiring college students. Many come from high poverty and do not have a lot of access to computers. I would like to provide them with the same opportunities that children from neighboring school districts have in schools where Chromebooks or iPads are provided at a 1:1 device-to-student ratio. Through the help of generous donors, I have received 22 Chromebooks and am creeping closer to my goal. It is now necessary to get a cart to house all of them so that they can charge nightly.

Many of my students have to work long hours after school to support their families and are taking care of their siblings so that their parents can work multiple jobs.

They are wonderful children who will be very appreciative to have a new and exciting way to participate in my class. They are eager to learn and be prepared for the next chapter of their lives after high school.

My Project

My students come from all over the city. As someone who likes to integrate technology in my lessons every day, it becomes difficult to do this when students do not have 1:1 devices. I currently have three iPads that students use for research during class and also during their lunch periods to apply for college and compete research for their classes. 1:1 devices would put my students on a level playing field with other students in the state. It will also help to prepare them for college where various types of technology are required in order to complete classes successfully.
