Making Storytelling Come Alive for Students and Teachers Alike

Help me give my students a way to explore new books, stories, and important themes in and out of the classroom. The Green Screen and storage cabinets will help me provide engaging lessons in person and online.

My Students

I teach in a small rural community. These are farmers, rodeo stars, hunters, and woodsmen. While this group has always been more isolated than most communities, the pandemic has increased the level of isolation to an almost alarming degree as many of the activities and events that would bridge those gaps and bring people together have been canceled or suspended. Another factor that makes the pandemic hard for this group is their lack of access to tech-related resources. The Internet options out there are slow and expensive.

Many of the families rely on agriculture to survive, and that industry has been hit hard due to supply chain issues.

This results in households struggling to have access to the necessary devices to get kids engaged in the online curriculum options. A number of parents have communicated that they operate under a sort of learning triage system where the Secondary Education students in the home get first priority. The drop in test scores in our school over the online learning time has been heart breaking, and we know that much of that is due to the younger kids getting very little time to utilize the online content provided.

My Project

The resources and books I am requesting will enhance not only my in-school lessons, but will also facilitate fun and engaging online content if we end up in a distance learning situation again.

The use of the Green Screen supplies and story props will help me make fun teaching moments that can be used at home and in the classroom - but it will also be utilized by the Extension Reading Group that I lead.

They will learn to use that technology and enhance their own story telling and educational reporting skills. The items requested will be used by the students as well as me.
