My Students

I have been a teacher in Baltimore City Public schools for 13 years. I currently work in a high poverty school. I have been asked by the leadership at my school to develop a STEM enrichment program for students at my school. As part of that, I am training teachers on implementation of STEM lessons.

Teachers at the school have been given resources to implement STEM lessons with their students however that have not received any training in the use of the resources.

I have received training from the district and am now charged with presenting training to teachers. Unfortunately in my district they are unable to provide me with a reliable laptop. The computer I have been given is at least 6 years old outdated. In order to provide continued professional development I need a modern computer.

My Project

STEM curriculum is an excellent way to engage reluctant learners. After teachers receive training they will be able to begin to implement this engaging curriculum that is aligned to national standards. The curriculum provides teachers with literacy, math science and engineering content to present to their students. With proper support teachers will be able to engage students in activities that are interesting and relevant. Students who may have learning differences will be able to engage in hands on activities and problem solving that they may not normally be exposed to.

My project will make a difference because it will bring STEM lessons to students in first through fifth grade at my school.

It will allow me to participate in webinars and research strategies that I can share with teachers to ensure that we continue to implement engaging and rigorous STEM activities in our classrooms.
