We are on the downward side our last half of the 2018-19 school year! The students become more and more restless as time goes by on. We are a small rural community in central Illinois with a fair amount of students ranging from Pre-K to 8th grade.
I'm the Library Aide who as classrooms visiting the library every day of the week.
I see all ages and grade levels, even children with special needs and all are crazy about their library!! I try to make it as happy, fun and enjoyable as I can afford to with a very limited budget..."ZERO"!
I have given students stacking stools, cozy chairs, floor pillows, "Flip" sequin pillows, and few stuffed animals just to create a more relaxed atmosphere. But there is always a few students that want to do something else during this time slot.
My Project
"Maker Spaces" Exactly what are Maker Spaces you ask !!? To be quite honest, I didn't know anything about them either until a couple of years ago until I happened upon a librarian's blog and began reading more and more about them every day and how they are helping to engage students in learning by doing fun activities in the library.
Statistics show us over and over again, we all learn better visually, by doing or seeing.
Maker spaces are little stations set up in school classrooms and/or libraries to help students learn more easily, by doing.
As you can see by the list of learning toys/gadgets I have chosen, it has a wide variety of diverse activities for students to experiment with at all ages and all learning levels. My plan includes a Lego wall, Lady Bug farm, Marble Tower building, and Viewmaster viewing.
