My students need Engineering science kits, Create A Chain Reaction and Engineer A Coaster Kit, that will allow them to explore forces in motion in a hands on meaningful way that is age appropriate.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have 24 inquisitive kindergartners and they absolutely love learning about science. During science, they have the opportunity to engineer structures that demonstrate things that push and pull. It's amazing that even as sophisticated a task as this, that they are determined to show their thinking.
My students are 5 and 6 years old, and although young, they thrive on learning and sharing their ideas with one another.
One of the ways that they enjoy sharing is through experimenting and exploring the world. Science for my students is exciting and an outlet. Even the shyest students take risks and test theories out.
My Project
The STEM kit (for push and pull) and a magnetic kit will allow my students the hands on opportunity to create and see how gravity works. These kits will elicit many questions and encourage talk of theories (or reasons) of why things push and pull. These kits are essential because it will create a student directed learning environment where less of the teacher is guiding their learning. Student directed learning is essential in making lessons stick because this makes their learning meaningful and makes it stick.
Having these kits will enhance the learning of my students in that it will allow them opportunities to conduct many trials to test out their theories.
My hope is that they will take ownership of their thinking and continue to question the way the world works on their own. With this, they can develop the independence that they need to become successful in having a theory and evidence to back up their theory.
