This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 3rd grade at an elementary school where 95% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Funding for materials and peripheral computer equipment is very low.
My students love to explore the internet and research the different themes we study. I have 3 working computers in my room, for which I am very thankful, but no printer for the students to print out their research information. They also enjoy typing up their own stories and reports but again without a printer, the computer is almost useless.
I am requesting a new printer for the 3 computers in my classroom. My students are limited in their research capabilities because they are not able to print out the information.
I would also like a printer so that they may use to computers to type their reports or other writing assignments. Including technology in the classroom is very important in this day and age but I feel that if my students are unable to print out their work, then what good are the computers? I hope that a generous donor will be able to assist us with a new ink jet or laser type printer. Currently my school has a few Lexmark laser type printers that we were fortunate enough to have funding for 2 years ago so the large ink cartridges are already on order. The printer would be used for my current class of 15 students; however, the printer would continue to be used for future classes.
