My students need new reading supplies. We would love to have new audio and big books for our daily routine of literacy stations. These include the 8-book sets of Assorted Big Book Stories and the Best Classroom Listening Library, plus individual books, like "Pocket for Corduroy."
Think back to first grade when reading and books were fun! Learning to read is amazing and having fun doing it is even better! Our school is very limited on resources. I was lucky enough to get a listening station through Donors Choose and now need supplies to go with it.
We are a rural school in Indiana.
Our students come from a wide range of backgrounds. My first graders are so full of life and love to come to school and learn. I want to supply them with items to make their days here fun, as well as educational. We are a non-title school, which means we do not receive funds to purchase educational items.
My Project
I am wanting to restock my reading supplies! I am asking for audio books to use in our listening station. The listening station is very valuable because not all children are read to at home. Listening to someone read a story teaches fluency. This is an activity that everyone can benefit from and succeed at doing. I am also asking for Big Books. Kids love them!! I only have a few and they are getting worn out and have all been read. I need a new supply! The last item I am asking for is Time for Kids. I will use this to teach current events and let the children see what is happening in the world other than what they see on TV.
These newspapers, audio book sets and big books will not only help this years students, but students for years to come.
With these items I feel that our students will not only learn, but also improve their skills and have fun doing it. Reading should be enjoyable, so they will want to do it. First grade sets the foundation and is where kids form their attitude about reading. I want it to be positive to make them life long readers!!
