This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I love my students! They can be tough sometimes because they come to my classroom carrying burdens that no high school student should have to carry, but they come - every day. The boys I teach are residents at the school they attend and most of them come from broken homes where there was no emphasis on education. I work daily to motivate my students to learn, and to help them understand how education can be a benefit to them; not a hindrance.

I work with all boys and am fortunate enough to have small classes.

My largest class is 12 students so I am able to tailor my lessons to the needs of each student. I have so many ideas, but being in such a small school district I am limited to the materials I am able to purchase.

My Project

The books that I am requesting are of special interest to my students. I am teaching in a residential school for boys and they get frustrated with the lack of options for novels in the classroom. Most of my students are not reading above 5th grade, so I would like to get them excited and motivated to read by using books that are of interest to them.

I would use the requested materials to create a classroom library where the students could choose books to read and then design presentations around what they read.

Presentations would include speeches, PowerPoint presentations, Demonstrations, etc. - whatever was of interest to the students.
