This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every day, we come into the classroom and by the end of the day, we read multiple books of a variety of genres and topics. However, we don't currently have a center where students can sit and independently listen to a book.

My classroom has students from a variety of backgrounds (ethnic, social, religious, etc.).

They are energetic, enthusiastic, and curious children. My school is 93% free and reduced price lunch eligible and supplies are limited. Currently, we do not have a working listening center or any audiobooks.

My Project

The headphones and junction box of the listening center and books will be used every day in a literacy center. I plan on using these audiobooks in a rotation and depending on what theme or unit we are learning about that week. Every week, everyone in the classroom will get the chance to listen to the stories and do a comprehension activity following it for a center!

Listening to stories helps children develop reading fluency, word automaticity, alphabet knowledge, book-handling skills, vocabulary, and more.

Giving my students the opportunity to experience literacy in that way will make them feel engaged and interested in reading. Children love listening to stories and this is another way for them to do that!
