Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We love 1st grade! First grade is a fun time where students are excited to learn and are curious about the world around them. They have so much creativity, excitement, and positive energy.

We want to foster that curiosity and creativity as we teach our amazing kiddos.

Books are an engaging way to introduce and teach key concepts. The books about animals, butterflies, differences, food, and key 1st grade ideas will teach our students about the social studies and science standards. We will use what we learned from the books to write informative paragraphs as a class on the magnetic handwriting paper.

The rulers, cups, timers, straws, and other supplies allow students to participate in science investigations and engage in other hands-on learning experiences. We use the rulers to not only measure but to learn about sound and vibration.

Students use whiteboards often in science and math. It allows each of them to solve problems or show ideas on their own. The reusable cloth pads and markers will allow students to have their own materials.

The plastic mirrors help students as they are learning about phonics. They allow our students to identify what their mouth is doing when they are making sounds such as digraphs.

We need more resources to accommodate for our students varying math levels. We can get resources for Tier 2 instruction in math on Teachers Pay Teachers. The laminating sheets will allow us to laminate the resources we get and use them for many years.

We like to reward our students for their hard work. Small incentives such as erasers, calculators, and squishes, encourage students when they have tried hard and done their best. We use these small prizes as rewards when students have passed off math facts or read at home.
