Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students at my school are from all over the world. Most have moved to Michigan to seek a better life. Most have bare necessities and appreciate the basic needs.

Students are from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, Cuba, and Dominican Republic.

Their parents have moved to the United States for a better life. These students are very humble and appreciative. Many students have overcome major obstacles while living in the United States.

My students come to my Physical Education class and show their appreciation by their kindness and attentiveness. Students value Physical Education and know how important it is to be healthy. With that being said, most sports my students play seem to be a way for my students to forget about their everyday struggles. Gangs, drugs, and violence are a commonality in my school's community.

My Project

I chose basketballs because my current basketballs are worn down or lopsided. Many classes in my school do not have a ball to play with for recess. Both students and teachers have asked me if I have any old equipment I can donate, so this would help all classrooms at my school. If I get new basketballs, I can donate my old ones to classrooms.

I chose shoelaces because I purchased shoes for my school but students cannot wear most of them because laces are frayed.

Many students have multiple siblings or have a large family and cannot provide new shoes for all kids, so I decided to purchase shoes so all student can participate. Most parents don't have time to purchase these items (Many are working two jobs).

I chose the speaker because my students love music, and my sound system is broken. The students always ask me if I can play music, and I have to decline due to budgeting.
