Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are tactile learners who need the satisfaction of creating things with their hands. They enjoy the idea of making things, and their curiosity guides them in their desire of wanting to know how things around them are made, how they work, and how they can fix them.

Most of my students come from an industrial area of Brooklyn, and will likely find jobs that require specific, industrial skills.

My goal is to help them explore these skills earlier on in their lives so they can enjoy the experience of learning.

My Project

My students are a curious bunch who are constantly trying to figure out how things are made and whether they can make these things by themselves or not. I have had several projects funded through this website, and with the generous donations I have been able to start a Makers Club where students can learn how to make things from scratch.

Many of my students come to school without the most basic need for a student; a pen/pencil.

I am constantly giving out pens and pencils, and I thought, how great would it be if I could teach students how to make their won pens and pencils!

With the lathe that I've requested, I will be able to teach my students how to make pens, pencils, and they will be able to make keepsakes for themselves and others.
