I have the best students in the world, and they always want to move!

Our school in a urban neighborhood and many of my students are from homes with low incomes. All my children love to play, and they all like to show me how high they can jump, how fast they can run and how they can climb on the playground equipment all by themselves!

My Project

It is incredible how gross motor skills improve between the ages of 3-5. Young children's gross motor skill development is very important, not least of all because of how it ties in to overall self esteem. Our program always makes recess a priority. The items requested in this package will help improve the quality of our indoor and outdoor recess. I am requesting 6 outdoor playground balls (with a pump and bag), 2 soccer balls, 6 ball hops, 2 spring ball super hops, 1 balance beam, 1 parachute, 2 ogodisk mega packs, and riverstones. Many of our Illinois learning standards relate to gross motor activities, and this equipment will allow the children to develop these needed skills and allow for me to assess those skills. For example, we need to know if a child can balance on a beam and whether they can catch, throw and kick a ball. Other items, such as the parachute will be used for group activities to build community and increase listening skills and ability to follow directions.

These items will help diversify my students gross motor activities and provide more opportunities to increase strength and coordination in different muscle groups.

Plus, they will be a lot of fun, which always helps!
