Help me give my students materials to enhance our Writing Center. A fresh supply of pens, pencils, paper, highlighters, stickers, envelopes, and binders will help inspire these budding authors.
My second grade class typically works for part of the day at hands-on learning centers that integrate all subject areas. These activities and centers tap into my students' natural curiosity and give ample opportunities for them to be active participants in their own learning.
Each day is a new opportunity to make an impact on their lives and to inspire and drive their desire to learn.
In our district, we know many of our students overcome significant obstacles to pursue their education.
Despite those obstacles, our students arrive in the classroom ready for discovery. These students are inspiring learners.
My Project
For the past couple years I have purchased many of my own supplies and made due with what I have had in my classroom. I try to recycle as much as possible and encourage my students to do the same. However, at the end of the year I am nearly out of essential supplies: highlighters, paper, pencils, envelopes, binders, and stickers.
Second grade students are asked to write a lot, and many of them struggle with developing those writing skills that will play a critical role in their education as they get older.
When a skill is difficult for a child to master, it is important to make learning it fun so they will be motivated to persevere.
These supplies that I've requested will be used to create a fun, interactive writing center. Children get excited over small things like different colored paper, unique writing tools, and stickers. They will use them to practice their writing and editing skills. Strong writers are strong learners, and you never know when one of them may decided to grow up to become an author. They have wonderful stories to tell, and just need our help in getting them out!
