Making our PEACE ROOM engaging and Stimulating for All Ages
Help me give my students an exercise bike along with other tools to help engage the older students in a peaceful setting. Also, encouraging healthy snacks that need to be refrigerated in our amazing Peace Room!
Myself and Mrs. Williams work together as Building Behavior Support Assistants. We are both new to this position this year and have an amazing space that we inherited from the former BBSA last year. We call it the "Peace Room".
The Peace Room serves many students.
They come from many different backgrounds with different stories and needs. We have students with ADHD, ADD, sensory needs and many with trauma issues. We teach social skills to all grade levels. Many students come to take routine breaks daily. It also serves as a safe space that students can come play a game, de-escalate, take a breather or enjoy a snack.
We have come to realize there are a few items that would enhance our space and help include the older kids to feel they are a part of the environment. Currently the room focuses on the younger students. We would like to have some items that would benefit the older students mentally and physically. Some of these kids have a hard time sitting still and need that exercise daily to get back on track, we are hoping to get a bicycle in the room to help with that need.
Many of our students have medication needs that cause a loss of appetite and we are looking to be able to offer a few stable, refrigerated, choices that will help them settle their stomachs and teach them the value of healthy snacks.
We are in a situation that we are not monetarily supported by parents, teachers, or our PTO. Our administration is the sole supporter of our room and our needs. We are hoping to be able to offer a few new items to keep the students engaged and make the room more functioning for all the ages we serve. Thank You!
