We are public school in a rural setting in the mountains of North Carolina. I teach fifth grade, with close to 80 students. We are a title I school and many of our students come from low income families. Many of our students do not get the chance to travel, and this trip to Washington, D.C. is one of a lifetime for most of them.

While we do have a computer lab, funding for the newest technological equipment is very limited. Students need a chance to use a variety of technologies to see the opportunities available to them. Being able to video our trip, add their video to their PowerPoints, and then compile everything together in a DVD will be very exciting for them.

We need two small video cameras in order to film our trip. Only some of our students will have cameras, and teachers/chaperones usually provide opportunities for students to take digital pictures. If students have a video camera, they can add this additional information to the DVD we make for the students. They will learn how to edit video with software already on our school computer as well as have access to these additional memories on the DVD they are given at the end of the year.

You will make it possible to allow my students to have a resource that will allow them to keep their memories as well as share them with their families. In addition, they will be gaining real world technological skills that may stimulate their interest in a career path later in life.
