My Students

I teach groups of vibrant and energetic first and fourth graders.

Many of them require additional academic support to assist them with meeting grade level expectations. Although some of them are holdovers or have special needs, most just really need that extra push to help them succeed. My students attend a PreK to 5 elementary school in New York City. Our school is located in the poorest congressional district in the nation--an area of the South Bronx with a very high concentration of poverty.

My Project

My students need opportunities to make their learning visible. I envision my students using the writing folders to support them with writing "how-to"books and their very own personal narratives that can be shared with others in the school community. The book-binding supplies will enable them to have to have protective covers for books they will author and illustrate.

This project would be an engaging way to empower students through the arts and integrate literacy!

With your help, my students can use their writing process folders to help them publish personal narratives and/or "how-to" books that they will be eager and willing present to others- inspiring others students to READ and WRITE!
